I won’t lie, I struggled with today’s Five for Ten post. There’s so much going on in my head most days that it’s easy to lose sight of what is really important. It’s easy to get dragged down with everything that is going wrong, or that could be improved.
To me, happiness is finding what is right and good, right now. Not what will make me happy a month from now (when the next iPhone is released) or what made me happy last week (a wonderful Mother’s Day). Happiness is found by looking through the cracks of everyday life and focusing on the little things that bring a smile to my lips
I recently found this quote on The Happiness Project that sums it up perfectly:
The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet. ~ James Openheim
I took a good look at my life, and found that I have plenty of happiness growing under my feet. Here are a few of the everyday things that bring happiness to my life.
- Breakfast, chatting with the kiddo. We have the most fascination conversations.
- Watching the kiddo run shouting “eat my brains” while the Dad-oo-zombie chases him.
- Nap time. Beautiful, quiet nap time.
- Starbucks’ raspberry mocha’s, a good book, and some new music.
- Eating homemade pizza on Friday nights while watching a movie or catching up on Tivo with Dad-oo.
- Sometimes just getting through the day without melting down into tears. You know, one of those kinds of days.
- Being able to heal just about any boo-boo with a simple kiss.
- A quiet moment with a piece of good dark chocolate.
- Yoga, for centering my body and mind.
- My husband.
- My family.
- My friends.
- Puppy dog kisses.
- A sense of being exactly where I should be in my life.
- Big brown eyes looking deep into mine, asking me to explain the world, soothe fears and dry tears.
Also, chips and dip. Especially the chunky homemade salsa. Mmmmmm… (wondering what I’m talking about?)
What does happiness mean to you?
Don’t forget about the Thank Your Journal carnival starting this week. I hope to see you there.
