A few weeks ago, OK, honestly it was more like a few months ago, I review and raved about Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil. I love this product (you can read more about why here).
But, one thing that I found is the strong coconut flavor isn’t always the best match for some recipes. Although you can find a world of recipes that it is perfect for, some of my every day cooking and baking didn’t really need the extra flavor.
So, I sheepishly asked if I could sample their Expeller-Pressed Coconut Oil, and to my delight they said YES!
While the Expeller-Pressed coconut oil is more refined than the Virgin, it is still done the “old”, which means it does not use solvent extracts like modern ways of processing coconut oil. It also is not hydrogenated, and contains no trans fatty acids.
The result is a virtually tasteless oil. Which is perfect for recipes that necessarily need a strong coconut flavor.
I’ve used this oil in all sorts of recipes, from corn tortillas to granola bars and chicken to crackers with wonderful results. This is truly a great, all-purpose oil.
And, this may sound kind of strange, I actually use it on my skin. I put some on my hands before bed each night to help ease the dry, cracked skin, and even on my face, if I’m breaking out (which never happens, I’m not a teenager anymore). Contrary to logical thinking, putting coconut oil on my face doesn’t make it break out even more. In fact, I’ve found that it helps it heal quicker.
